Welcome

Welcome to my blog, SCRIBBLING TO (IN)SANITY! First time here? I'm a romance writer who wants to believe most problems can be solved over coffee, a mixed drink or by anything covered in chocolate. I'm a believer in second chances and that it's always the right time to fall in love. As the saying goes, you're a guest in my house only once...then you're family. So I invite you to join the fun! I love comments but it's okay to lurk too - just know I'm glad you've found me and I hope you visit me again soon!

52 Ways to Joy ~ Musical Memories

52 Ways to Joy
Welcome to another week of celebrating the small moments of joy!

Since I started this series a month ago, I've been keeping a list of possible choices that will ultimately make up all 52 ways.

Looking over the list this week, I found myself drawn to the idea of music.

Musical Memories.

Does a certain song bring back memories of your childhood? A memory of High School? Or can a simple song on your iPod just make you feel good? Music can have such power over our feelings, it's amazing isn't it?

I know for me, there are some songs that immediately take me to a place and time in the past - some memories so vivid I still get warm and fuzzy feelings for those few minutes.

This week as I hear songs that tug at my memories and give me moments of joy, I write them down and I've been making a "joy" playlist. So from now on, I know when I'm out for a walk or need a few minutes to revive my spirit - I've got a go-to mix on my iPod!

One of the songs on my "Joy" playlist? Every Breath You Take by The Police because it's immediately puts me in a car with a boyfriend out on one of our first dates. I can feel the leather of the seats, smell the cologne he was wearing and remember the little butterflies in my belly. Yes, I married the guy, which makes the memory that much sweeter.

Do you have a "feel-good" playlist or a go to song to cheer you up? Click to tweet!

Wishing you joy this week, wherever your travels take you!

Holiday Singing?

I will be the first to admit that I cannot sing.

11 months out of the year, I belt out the tunes and sing along to my favorite songs ONLY when I know I am alone, like in the car or in the shower. BUT come December, all the restraint goes out the window and I sing along to the holiday music no matter where I am.

In the mall, at the office, in the grocery store...I feel no shame singing along (usually off key) to the strains of White Christmas or Santa Baby. My iPod is loaded up with holiday albums of all old favorites like Johnny Mathis and Bing Crosby - but is also just as loaded with Christmas tunes from Michael Buble and Mariah Carey. (I'm actually a sucker for new holiday releases...much to my family's dismay.)

Last year I started playing a holiday station on Pandora, so for the 5 hours I'm there every work day there is no escaping the sounds of my lovely voice drifting through the office. (I guess it's a small blessing for my co-workers that I'm pretty much alone in my office most of the time!)

What about you? Do you sing along with the holiday music?

And while you're singing along with your favorite tune, why not take a chance in my December giveaway? There's still time to enter! Check out my Rafflecopter below (the prize description can be found here.)
